The Knight on Horseback

The image of the Knight on horseback and  his faithful hound is a familiar illustration for membersof  the Blue Pilgrims (Knighthood) , but for some it has deeper meaning.  Here are some explanations:-

The Knight:     Looks towards Heaven, awaiting his commands.

The Sword:      The sword is a symbol of the Cross: it is not being used as a weapon but as a means of praise and honour

The Shield:      The Shield is not being used to protect as it would normally be, because the Knight has put his trust in God.

The Horse:       The horse is a symbol of power, but he is allowing the Knight to use him because he knows the Knight is honouring a greater power – God.

The Hound:     The dog symbolises the Learning Knight and also Obedience, as he looks to his master for orders.

The Flowers:    The flowers are a sign of new growth, and show all different stages of growth.  They are all different but also all the same.

My Lord, I am ready on the threshold of this new day, to go forth armed with Thy power, seeking adventure on the high road, to right wrong, to overcome evil, to suffer wounds and endure pain if need be, but in all things to serve Thee bravely, faithfully and joyfully.

Bless my shield for me Christ, King of Chivalry.
